Terms of Service
The short version
- Pigney is a social app for sharing spending with friends. It is not a bank, a budgeting tool or financial advice.
- Amounts are typed in by people. Nothing is verified against a bank, so treat the numbers as conversation, not accounting.
- Your posts stay yours. You give us permission to show them to the friends you accepted, and nothing more.
- Be decent to your friends, don't post other people's private information, and don't abuse the service.
- Pigney is free and early. Things may break, and you can leave and take your data with you at any time.

Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Pigney. They apply when you create an account, use the Pigney mobile apps for iOS and Android, or use the website at pigney.app (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Pigney. If you use Pigney on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are allowed to accept these Terms for them.
Who provides Pigney
Pigney is built and operated by an independent developer based in Vietnam. There is no company behind it — it is one person's project. You can reach us at hello@pigney.app, which is the official contact for anything in these Terms, including notices, complaints and legal requests.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Pigney, or older if your country sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services — for example 16 in parts of the European Union. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
You may not use Pigney if you are barred from doing so under the laws that apply to you, or if we have previously terminated your account.
Your account
You sign in with an email address and password, or with Google Sign-In. You must give accurate information and verify your email address before you can use the app. One account is for one person — do not share your account or let someone else use it.
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. Tell us at hello@pigney.app straight away if you think someone else has access to it.
What Pigney is not
This section matters more than the rest, so it is in plain words.
Pigney is a social app, not a financial service. We are not a bank, a payment provider, a money transmitter, an accounting tool or a licensed adviser of any kind. Nothing in the app is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. We do not move, hold, or have access to any money.
Every number in Pigney is typed in by a person. Amounts, currencies and dates come from whoever made the post. We do not connect to any bank or card, and we do not verify that a purchase happened, that the amount is right, or that anyone is being honest. Your friends' totals and the leaderboard are only as accurate as what people chose to enter.
Currency conversion is approximate. When your leaderboard shows posts made in another currency, we convert them using stored reference rates so the comparison is readable. These are not live market rates, they are not the rate any bank would give you, and converted totals are estimates only.
Do not use Pigney as your record of what you spent, and do not rely on it for budgeting, taxes, expense claims, splitting bills or any decision where the numbers need to be right.
Your content
"Your content" means everything you put into Pigney: photos, amounts, captions, your display name and profile picture.
You keep ownership of your content. We claim no ownership of it. You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content solely in order to operate the Service — which in practice means storing it and showing it to the friends you accepted, on the devices they use. This licence exists only for that purpose. It ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies that remain briefly in routine backups.
We do not use your content for advertising, we do not license it to anyone else, we do not use it in marketing without asking you first, and we do not use it to train machine-learning or AI models.
You confirm that you own or have the right to post your content, and that posting it does not break the law or anyone else's rights. Be careful what your photos contain: receipts, screens and packaging can show card numbers, addresses and other people's details.
Rules of use
Do not use Pigney to:
- Harass, bully, threaten or demean anyone — including in captions aimed at a friend's spending.
- Post content that is illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or that depicts or promotes violence or self-harm.
- Post someone else's private or financial information, or images of people who did not agree to be posted.
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent who you are.
- Post spam, promotions, scams, or attempts to sell anything.
- Break into accounts, probe or interfere with the Service's security, or access data you were not given access to.
- Scrape or bulk-collect data, or access the Service with bots, scripts or automated tools rather than the app.
- Copy, decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where the law says you may.
- Overload the Service or use it in a way that degrades it for other people.
There is also a rule that is not legal, just decent: what your friends post in Pigney is shared with you in confidence. Do not republish it elsewhere, and do not screenshot it for an audience it was never meant for.
Friends and invite links
Pigney is invite-only. Your posts are shown to people whose friend requests or invite links you have accepted, and to nobody else.
Treat an invite link like a key. Anyone who opens one of your invite links becomes your friend on Pigney immediately, without a further approval step from you — so only send them to people you actually want in your feed, and never post one publicly. Invite links expire one hour after you create them, and you can revoke one before that.
You can remove a friend at any time, which stops them seeing anything you post from that point on. It cannot reach back and undo what they have already seen or saved.
A free service, still being built
Pigney is free to use, and there is nothing to buy inside it. If we ever introduce paid features, we will say so clearly in advance, and what is free today will not silently become something you are charged for.
Pigney is early software. We add, change and remove features, and the Service may be interrupted for maintenance or by faults. We try hard not to lose anyone's data, but you should not treat Pigney as the only place a photo or a record exists.
Suspension and ending your account
You can leave at any time. Email hello@pigney.app from your account's email address and we will delete your account, your posts and their photos, your friendships and your notification records, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these Terms, that puts other users or the Service at risk, or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first. For serious cases — harassment, illegal content, attacks on the Service — we may act immediately.
We may also discontinue Pigney entirely. If that happens, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to retrieve your content before it is deleted.
Sections that by their nature should outlive the agreement — content licences already granted for backups, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law — survive the end of your account.
Third-party services
Pigney relies on services run by other companies: Firebase for sign-in and push notifications, cloud hosting and storage for the backend, and the App Store and Google Play for distribution. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for how those services behave or for outages they cause.
Our intellectual property
The Pigney name, logo, app, website, design and software belong to us and are protected by intellectual property law. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. They do not give you any right to our branding or code.
App Store and Google Play terms
If you downloaded Pigney from the Apple App Store, the following also applies, and it overrides anything inconsistent elsewhere in these Terms:
- These Terms are between you and us only — not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund your purchase price — which is zero, as Pigney is free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims.
- Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending or resolving any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded Pigney from Google Play, Google Play's terms apply in addition to these Terms, and Google is likewise not a party to this agreement.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pigney is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure against every threat, that any content in it is accurate, or that data will never be lost. We are not responsible for what other users post or do, on or off Pigney.
Some countries do not allow these exclusions. If yours does not, this section applies to you only as far as the law permits, and your mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or losses arising from financial decisions you made using anything you saw in Pigney.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, for a free service, is zero) or USD 100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under mandatory consumer protection law where you live.
Your responsibility to us
If someone brings a claim against us because of your content, your use of Pigney, or your breach of these Terms or of someone's rights, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages we incur as a result, to the extent the claim arises from what you did.
Privacy
How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: your posts are visible only to friends you accepted, we never connect to your bank, there are no ads or tracking, and we do not sell your data.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as Pigney changes. When we do, we will update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will give you reasonable notice in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Pigney after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree with them, you can delete your account.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought before the competent courts of Vietnam.
If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally or to rely on your own country's mandatory consumer protections, this section does not take that right away.
Please email hello@pigney.app first — almost everything is quicker to fix that way than through a court.
If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. You may not transfer your rights under them; we may transfer ours if Pigney is ever handed over to another operator, and we will tell you if that happens.
